Is it possible for the opposite gender to remain best friends?
I've just finished watching a romantic movie named Love, Rosie. It's a story about two childhood best friends who grew up, went their separate ways in live, always keeping touch and finally realizing that the one person they ever truly loved was each other.
I envy the type of friendship both of them shared and I am sure many people do too. What they had with each other was special and the chemistry they had was evident throughout the whole movie. To me, it was obvious that both of them love each other but the female lead refuses to acknowledge it, thinking that both of them were just friends.
This is something I have seen in real life where it is obvious to the people around them that both parties belong to each other but they just claimed that they don't feel it and both of them are just friends. And I actually do believe them because I feel that it is possible. I'm not saying that there will not be a chance where this friendship might develop into something more. But what I mean is that, at this moment right now, both of them only view each other as their best friend. It would be weird to think otherwise.
I believe there are cases whereby people do really remained best friends throughout their whole lives, never developing any romantic feelings for each other because they already know that they are not meant to be romantically involved. So yes, it is possible for the opposite gender to remain best friends (often much to the dismay of their other friends who kept hoping that they would get together already). But seriously, if you are not feeling it, then you are not feeling it. No point trying it out and then ending in a pool of tears and broken hearts and with so much awkwardness that they cannot remain as friends.
Best friends.
They love each other, but it's not the romantic kind of love.
They are a significant part of each others' lives, but they choose not to spend it only with them.
Much ironic as it sounds, it's their choice to keep it that way and if they feel it's for the best, then it probably is. Although many say that you should marry your best friend, but maybe best friends are just that - FRIENDS and nothing more.
