Back again with drama updates (part II)
In the previous post, the shows I've mentioned were comedies and mainly light-hearted. In this post, I will continue my list of dramas that I've been watching, and I would say, these are totally worth checking out.
4. Witches of East End
As the name suggests, this drama is about a group of witches who lives in East End. This drama was an adaptation of a trilogy written by Melissa de la Cruz. I've read the trilogy and I would like to say that the plot of this drama is nothing close to that in the book except for the characters. The witches were from Asgard and they had escaped to Earth (Midgard) via a portal. And since they were from Asgard, I guessed that they were some sort of god maybe? But they said that they were witches in the drama, so yeah... let's just go along with it.
So basically, the drama revolves around Joanna Beauchamp (Julia Ormond), her two daughters, Freya Beauchamp (Jenna Dewan) and Ingrid Beauchamp (Rachel Boston). They live together with their Aunt Wendy (Madchen Amick) and they have close relations to the Gardiners - Killian Gardiner (Daniel di Tomasso) and Dash Gardiner (Eric Winter). Much of the story would involve Joanna keeping both her daughters alive as long as possible because as according to her experience in her previous life times, both her daughters would die before they hit 30. She was cursed to have to go through the pain of childbirth, see her daughters live till about 20+ before they would die for some reason or another, and then go through the pain of losing her girls before finding herself young and pregnant with them again. It seems like a painful cycle for Joanna and she would do all her best to keep her daughters safe, as according to her, she felt that she could not go through all those pain again. However, it was hard to keep her two grown children under her protective wing as harm keeps coming to them in all ways, jeopardizing their life. This series I could say gets more and more interesting as you watch the episodes and the truth is being revealed behind the reason why they would have to escape from Asgard and with what harm would they have brought along with them through the portal.
This drama has currently finished airing season 2.

5. Halt and Catch Fire
So far only one season of Halt and Catch Fire has been aired and to be honest, I finished the season in about 3 days. I have to be honest with you, I personally found this show a little boring at times, especially the first few episodes but it gets interesting around the 5th and the 6th. As most reviews have said, it's a 'slow burn'.
What this drama is about? (I'll try to give you information about this drama as accurately as I can because I find the drama difficult to understand, with all the technical terms used in computer engineering. It's set in the late 1970's and early 1980's. The main character, Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace) starts off the series with a talk with a group of university students. It is in this talk that he discovers Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis), a student within the group that shares a same vision for future computers like he does. He went forward to propose to her a job with him and Gordon Clark (Scoot McNairy), which whom he approached earlier after reading his article. The trio works at Cardiff Electric and their project involves reverse engineering an IBM PC. Joe has a vision, to make a PC that is 2 times faster and at half the price of the PCs that were on sale that time, and his team were going to help him achieve that. Later on during the show, he decided to make his PC portable (which means it's like our laptop now?). In this show, we will be able to witness the initial evolution of the PC, from the big desktop version used in the past to the small and portable laptop that we carry with us nowadays.
Honestly, this show contains so much technical jargons that I have to Google up their script and read through it. Reading through the script doesn't even guarantee full understanding. I even went to read up on the meaning of the terms. I can't deny that I learnt quite a few things about computer engineering from this show, but seriously, you need to have patience to last you through the first few episodes.

6. 666 Park Avenue
I'm currently watching 666 Park Avenue now. I'm at Season 1 episode 9 (total of 13 episodes). There's one season that was being aired so far. I'm not sure whether they will continue shooting for season 2 or not but I sure hope so.
This story was based loosely on a novel of the same name, by Gabriella Pierce. It takes place in an apartment building on the Upper East End at 999 Park Avenue known as The Drake. As we follow Henry (Dave Annable) and Jane (Rachael Taylor) into the building as they look for a job as the apartment manager, we get to know the owner of the building, Gavin Doran (Terry O'Quinn) and his wife, Olivia Doran (Vanessa L. Williams). There is something odd about Mr Doran, something dark and sinister behind his calm and friendly facade. Throughout the show, he goes around sealing deals with the residents living in the apartment. He helps them achieve their dream and in exchange, he gets them to do work for him. But more often than not, those who sealed a deal with him ended up having really bad consequences, which reminds me about Supernatural (a TV show which I loved). In Supernatural, it was often showed when people made deals with crossroad demons, they have to pay it back with their souls after 10 years and really, the ending for them is always nasty. And this similarity leads me to wonder whether Mr Doran is associated with the Devil or he is a demon himself. Towards the end of the series, we see Jane and Nona Clark (Samantha Logan), another resident of The Drake, help each other uncover the mysteries of the building. Nona referred to themselves as Children of the Drake, and I think what she meant was that their lives where somehow tied to this building? Or the building has a even more sinister history than what was being let on on the first few episodes?
All in all, this is a really good drama! And I am definitely looking forward to Season 2. (I should just finish Season 1 first...)
