The War at Home

Anyone remembers this American sitcom that was showed on FOX channel? This sitcom was created by Rob Lotterstein and it ran from 2005 to 2007. This show lasted for 2 seasons but was not renewed for the third season.

This show depicts the life of an American family. The dad, David Gold (Michael Rapaport) was often depicted as one who is rather insensitive and overprotective over his children. His wife, Victoria Gold (Anita Barone) on the other hand is the direct opposite of her husband. She is more understanding towards her children. It is evident in the series that both parents care a great deal about their children and they are trying their best to be a good parent. However, they often secretly wish that their kids will be off to college so that they can take a break from them.

Dave and Vicky have 3 children - Hillary (Kaylee DeFer), Larry (Kyle Sullivan) and Mike (Dean Collins).

Hillary is the oldest child. She portrays a 17 year old teenager in the sitcom. She, like a typical teenager, often misbehaves and tries to get away with all her bad behaviour, often by lying and sneaking out of the house after she is grounded by her parents. She is also manipulative at times.

Mike (14 year old) is very similar to Hillary. Although he doesn't do things like sneaking out of the house, he has his own bags to tricks to get what he wants. He is often seen dealing with issues such as dating and underage gambling.

Larry (16 year old) is the middle child. He is a social misfit and is often seen being bullied by his siblings. He is also picked at by his father as to his father, he is not tough enough. Dave wishes his son to be interested in 'boyish' things such as soccer and other sports. However, Larry likes plays and chess (things that are not as rough and typically associated with 'nerds'), which for a traditional man like Dave, it is very hard to accept.

Larry has a good friend named Kenny (Rami Malek). Kenny has a secret crush on Larry and Larry's parents initially thought that both of the boys are gay. However, it was revealed in the series that Larry is straight as her more openly showed his interest for girls. He even tried to date Mike's ex-girlfriend once.

This comedy series can be found in YouTube, a recommendation especially when you are feeling bored or down. Although the jokes can be lame sometimes but it can still instill a laughter or two.

Hope you will enjoy this show as much as I do.

Cheers!
